It’s been a learning process and something that took time to figure out. My goal for the routine is to get 20% of all activities done that are the most valuable, assuming that 20% gives me 80% of the benefits for achieving what I want (the Pareto Principle - Wikipedia link). Next, I rewrite my 6 goals of the year.

Phone ringing? When I’m doing important work, I also switch off my phone. It really streamlines the process. Or defer it to a later period. 12 – Block out distractions. What’s distracting you in your work? Instant messages? Text messages popping in? I hardly ever use chat nowadays. Otherwise it gets very distracting.

We also both have android phones and when I add appointments on my phone it syncs online and vice versa. Since we both have gmail calendars it automatically adds to the hubby phone/calendar.   For some, just the process of writing can help put the information into your memory and make it a solid committment.

I believe it applies just as well to our thought process. If I think of failures and an inability to reach my goals, I will succeed only if by accident. At the end of every quarter I review what goals I set out, and compare them to what I achieved. I recently read a posting claiming that setting goals is overrated.

These types of meetings can be depressing, especially if questions begin to reveal discrepancies in thought process or planning. In fact, in this case we received a compliment on how well in tune we were with our common goals and plans. However, I also heard how our business plan was incomplete and needed further revisions.
