If you can prove yourself as a good worker you can go up through the ranks and because they already know how you work, they are more apt to promote you. If a more experienced assistant comes alongside you and provides mentoring - dont refuse it. I finally had a chance to sit down and read your book over the holiday.

It says a lot when your boss wants to grow you within the company and promote you. I would also volunteer at work and socialize with my co-workers during the holiday gift wrapping parties. I mentored other younger assistants. It sounds like things are going swimmingly with your productivity and work performance.

Constantly you should be having interactions and it should just be a never–ending process of learning and growing and getting better and building relationships and having interactions, and that’s the type of environment we want to promote. They’re still mentors. We have some employees that do that. They still do a great job.

A good people leader is always willing to mentor and assist their team members. But while you may dream of a senior level promotion, putting in 70 hour work weeks to achieve it will only result in burnout. Set boundaries. However, being too accessible can distract you from completing your own duties in a reasonable timeframe.

They also walk the fine line of wanting someone who knows the job, but not so well that they are bored and were ready for a promotion 3 years ago. I would ask how long the temp status was for, and negotiate a deal that makes sense for you to not have sick days, paid holidays, benefits, etc. In hindsight, I am 99.9%
