Aside from the network, what have been your career highlights to date? I would also recommend joining a local PA network. This will mean that you get to meet other PA’s from all sectors and you will be able to network and develop. About the network…. What made you decide to set up the network?

Form a committee, then within the committee form subcommittees for activities throughout the event. Have a sub-committee for the catering/venue (if the event is not going to be held at the company), another sub-committee would be for entertainment. This is a chance for you and your committee to be creative.

I held a training seminar and Committee meeting on the day that the second planned terrorist attack occurred in London in 2007. Fortunately the police managed to stop the would be terrorists but it did lead to chaos on the transport network. The Committee meeting was one step too far and we cancelled that for another day.

Why It Doesn’t Work Clearly, I’m being a little facetious…but the problem with this kind of advice is that it places an unfair burden on your network. The people in your network certainly want to help you grow professionally but not at their own expense. Having the ability and having the network are just the beginning.

You can upload an excel file with your guests names and check them in via your phone or iPad. Although I think this is mainly used for events I also think it works well for Committee meetings. This is a fabulous app if you or your manager are into networking! The app also links up their social networking details as well.
