Establish an Unsubscribe folder, then spend some time getting off the mailing lists of newsletters, alerts, bulletins, etc., Mind-boggling, isn't it?

Controlling email is hard but if you take a look at the emails that come to your in-box every day - how many of those are from email marketing, rss feeds, newsletters, coupons, etc. That will help reduce the clutter in your in-box.   Rather than having sticky notes all over your desk for things you want to get done, put the tasks on your calendar.    Make sure that as you schedule the activity (appointment on the phone, outside of the office or task you want to get done, etc) with enough time to come to a stopping point.

I have been on some interactive sites where assistants ask questions and get answers and I learn from them as I have some of the same questions. Lunch n learns are also a good way to learn from each other. Administrative newsletters or bulletin boards where you can post tips or suggestions is a good way to learn.

What I’ve learned about procedures development is that most of us aren’t lacking the motivation. Set a five-minute timer on your phone and dive in. I also create an appointment on my calendar so it’s the first commitment I see when I look at my schedule for the day. Most of us have timers on our smart phones.
