Get a basic understanding and learn how to promote yourself or your future employer so you can network better. Cast a wider net and be flexible.

Luckily, all my temping experiences have also been amazing so I've actually enjoyed my job hunt and gotten a lot out of it. The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

State you’d love to be an EA and learn so much you can be promoted to coordinator, director, manager. While you will have to work out of their home, if you are in charge of everyone else, and all those projects, that's equivalent to being a project manager at a company. State in 5 or 10 years you’d like to be VP of a division.

Grow & learn; read, talk to mentors, attend training or a conference, watch webinars, etc. I suggest constant learning before the unexpected change occurs so you can adapt more easily. One full-time job and a few temp positions came after that one. Maybe it’s time to find a better career match.

If you don’t have those basics down, it’s not really something you can learn well enough to truly change the trajectory of your career in a reasonable amount of time. As an EA, it’s pretty cut and dry if you are organized, reliable, listen and communicate well, understand the chain of command, and are diplomatic and trustworthy.

I saw E.Gilbert’s TED talk shortly before I learned I suffered from Bipolar Disorder and what she said resounded so true it was scary. I do want to learn more about what you mean with offshore work… expand?
