The goal is to be well-rounded in all aspects. I mention how I worked for all my CEOs because I was recruited away as a temp.

2) Make it clear you have bigger goals. When you interview for new jobs, do your yearly job performance reviews, network, or whenever appropriate, make it clear you have bigger goals. State you’d love to be an EA and learn so much you can be promoted to coordinator, director, manager. Work on your weaknesses.

Sign up with the major job hunting sites with your resume and profile, join social network sites geared towards work, and meet with every temp agency in town just to be safe. Don't be an assistant to a Director or Manager if at all possible. If anything, they sometimes marvel at how long the assistant did manage to last.

This was mostly as a temp during very slow months when the entire industry was on vacation, but I’m sure the paycheck wasn’t as amazing as yours.
