Here are some tips as your career progresses that will affect how you job hunt. The lower-level admin you are the more jobs there are. Those jobs support the President, CEO, CTO, CFO, and Chairman. Your job hunt will take a lot longer. Don't get sidetracked from your life and career goals.

2) Make it clear you have bigger goals. When you interview for new jobs, do your yearly job performance reviews, network, or whenever appropriate, make it clear you have bigger goals. State you’d love to be an EA and learn so much you can be promoted to coordinator, director, manager. Work on your weaknesses.

The point of the above exercise is to figure out if the solution is something that can be fixed with a little action/daily maintenance (go on vacation, take better care of yourself, respectively) or will take long term planning and goals/strategy (move closer to family or save enough money to travel for a year). Sign up with the major job hunting sites with your resume and profile, join social network sites geared towards work, and meet with every temp agency in town just to be safe. Don't be an assistant to a Director or Manager if at all possible. If anything, they sometimes marvel at how long the assistant did manage to last.
