The foyer, the salon bar and the restaurants are beautiful. The non-alcoholic Fizz was fizzy and well presented. for two courses and £22 for three courses it was great value. The restaurant decor certainly adds to the experience. This works exceptionally well in these big spaces but less so in the bedrooms.

We expected a fantastic meal but we were surprised at just how beautiful the restaurant was and how spectacular the view. This stunning restaurant has a variety of spaces for dinner and would be perfect for an intimate meal, a work celebration or a large client dinner. As a bit of a techy I loved the iPad version of the menu.

The hotel gave me and my husband a warm welcome, a short tour of the main parts of the hotel we’d need – spa, restaurant, bar – and were shown to our room. However, without prompt, a suitable menu was presented at dinner, and a delicious range of options available which put us both at ease. But that was soon to fade. Family/Leisure.

Venue sourcing is the first hurdle, and before you book that bar/restaurant/hotel/club/hall that promises the ideal capacity, ambience and menu, don’t forget that it needs to be easily accessible by public transport if you are not providing travel and accommodation.

Of course, the reason could have been that I was up all night with a sick child or wasnt feeling well myself or I just had an argument with my spouse and was still stewing about it.

The good thing about on-line courses, is anyone can do it from anywhere. When it gets closer to the course date and it doesnt look like they will fill the seats, they offer the course at a cheaper price. They can slot you into courses, either online or live classrooms that are happening tomorrow or later on.

Of course there will come a time when questions about certain things will not have to be asked as it is hoped the new hire will catch on to the office procedures and their initiative will kick in and they will take on these tasks on their own, but in the beginning please ask. I still get some flyers by regular mail and I do still appreciate them when it is a menu from a fast-food restaurant, money-back coupons or notices of courses in my area, but otherwise I throw them in the recycle bin.

I usually contact the hotel directly, although I sometimes go through a travel agent to find out intial names of hotels in the city that are close to my event, but after the booking I always take over the discussions.

There are courses on minute taking and Board governance, but also you can learn alot by reading books and asking others who are in this field. Experience helps as you really need to know your stuff. I have been learning on the job as far as minute taking goes, but I love writing so it is something I really enjoy doing. It is interesting work.
