I’ve also had the opportunity to speak at administrative professional and executive assistant conferences all over the world, including Hong Kong, Thailand, and Germany. Dozens of times throughout the day, you refresh your phone to see if you have new emails. You could call it Email FOMO (fear of missing out).

Previous to this I worked in such roles as Secretary to a group of Consultants, Marketing Assistant for an Architect firm, Facilities Coordinator for a construction company and Purchase Ledger for NHS Legal department just to name a few. Do noisy multitasking when on a conference call. Especially the "I've landed' cell phone calls ;) Would also suggest 'not' multitasking with email, Twitter, Facebook, etc. If you're going to use a cell phone, you should have at least a basic grasp of the process of electronic voice amplification.

At the same time, you need to realize that talking about co-workers and bosses in an unprofessional way can find you in legal hot water depending on what position you hold in a company, what information you are discussing and with whom. During conference calls, make sure each person is identified before beginning a conversation.
