Find yourself a mentor that you look up to. I would also learn earlier on how to train yourself to switch off. After her talk I knew that I had to do it for Guernsey as there weren’t any real PA training courses or anything like what we were thinking of doing. I would also recommend joining a local PA network.

We don’t carry much cost – particularly when it comes to training us up. So, after some advice from my mentor, I started sending my boss weekly emails detailing what I had achieved that week. He sponsored the committee and volunteered a few more members of staff. So for me it goes without saying that our role is indispensable.

Yes – started with the basics after raising family i.e. college courses – typing, word processing then on the job training. Not particularly.
