Find yourself a mentor that you look up to. I would also learn earlier on how to train yourself to switch off. After her talk I knew that I had to do it for Guernsey as there weren’t any real PA training courses or anything like what we were thinking of doing. I would also recommend joining a local PA network.

If inexperience is holding you back, approach someone whose work you admire and ask him/her to mentor you. Ask to join or form a workplace committee. Obtaining funds from work to complete training in the current environment is difficult. Yes, Outlook Training and Training in Supporting a University Committee. Yes – started with the basics after raising family i.e. college courses – typing, word processing then on the job training. Not particularly.
