A whole host of other reasons — company culture, mentoring, “efficiency,” watercooler time, etc. — Such a point of view, even if it is future-of-work prognostication, underscores a fundamental insight about which much of the workplace industrial complex (WIC) is in denial.

Deal with the issue, but do so professionally, tactfully and assertively in writing. I read a lot of leadership books. Seek out a trusted mentor, your spouse, significant other or even HR if the situation warrants their involvement. Stay assertive. Then breathe, delete it and start over. Stay passionate.

Mentor Newbies. Mentoring shows you are team-oriented and not afraid of helping other people shine. Chrissy also has an amazing book called The Proactive Professional and some incredible ebooks and guides. You have to bring those things to light. Don’t hide in the shadows and hope that someone notices all you do.
