Coming off the back of hosting the Ryder Cup in 2014 it has been an unprecedented busy couple of years; firstly preparing for one of the world’s main golfing events and then gearing up to celebrate the hotel’s milestone birthday. Like all leading hotels there never seems to be a quiet time to visit.

The hotel is surrounded by really nice restaurants, shops, cafes and bars which makes it a perfect location if you are travelling over for business and do not have a car. In fact you probably wouldn’t want to return home. Advertised minimum rate per night $339 (January 2014). . The suite itself was stunning.

Within 5 second of being in the hotel I knew the service was going to be good and I wasn’t disappointed. So I made my way down to the TwoTwentyTwo restaurant and bar. The Landmark also has a two-AA Rosetta restaurant called The Winter Garden. The service throughout my stay was impeccable.

I genuinely think 2014 was a turning point in our industry and I think 2015 will see a consolidation of our efforts to take our profession forward. The situation has improved over the last few years and we have seen record numbers attend events in 2014 but it will continue to be a struggle in 2015. Technology.

I wasn’t disappointed. The Doubletree was situated in the heart of downtown Memphis; close to plenty of fantastic restaurants, shops and local attractions including the Fedex Forum and Memphis Redbirds stadium. Advertised minimum rate is $149 per person (March 2014). The dining options are quite limited in the hotel.

A few years I organised afternoon tea at T hreadneedles Hotel for my department’s Christmas party. We sat in the lobby area of the hotel, which might not sound very ground but you haven’t seen the Threadneedles Hotel lobby! Advertised minimum rate per night is £180 (September 2014). It is stunning.

The Great Northern is ridiculously close to St Pancras (I had a lovely view of it just outside my window) and is technically in King’s Cross so there isn’t much chance of missing your train. I know this isn’t a sexy feature but it is bloody useful! The restaurant is in a fantastic space.

My visit to Nutfield Priory Hotel and Spa couldn’t have been more welcome. It was so lovely sitting outside having lunch that we didn’t really want to check into our suite. As we didn’t plan to spend much time in the room we didn’t feel the need to say anything to the staff.

The doorman was lovely and didn’t mind carrying my bright pink suitcase. As it was Sunday the restaurant was very busy catering for the New York Sunday brunch crowd. Advertised minimum rate is $595 per room (April 2014). . This is me arriving at The Lowell , New York City. No expense had been spared in the suites.

I didn’t really believe in love at first sight until I set my eyes on this absolutely stunning building in the heart of Charleston, South Carolina. As he showed me the amenities I’m glad he didn’t turn to look at me because I did have quite an astonished expression on my face.

With so much stuff in the room there wasn’t much space to walk around! The Colonnade does have a really popular restaurant called Brasserie Jo. Brasserie Jo is a great hotel restaurant and your manager can take clients there for a good meal. Advertised minimum rate is $271 per person (April 2014).

There are also a variety of cafes, restaurant and shops dotted throughout the lobby. Most don’t have a basketball court, running track, racquet ball court and full sized gym. Advertised minimum rate is $229 per person (March 2014). The atrium lobby is beautifully designed with Asian inspired decor.

During my time in Geneva it certainly hadn’t escaped my notice that Geneva is an expensive city: you can’t really escape it (unless you spend all of your time hanging around the central train station). You can’t really go wrong with a mojito, it was fine although a little watery.

I must say this little list doesn’t quite give you an idea of the room’s luxury. If it wasn’t for the fact I had not been to Washington DC before and therefore had to do some sightseeing I would have stayed in the bed, possibly forever. Advertised minimum rate per night $319 (January 2014). .

You would think a place this hip would be a little intimidating but it isn’t at all. The hotel doesn’t compromise comfort for cool, which is important. Located in downtown Chicago there are loads and loads of cool restaurants and bars nearby. The great food and drink doesn’t stop with The Berkshire Room.

After a few hours of mindless TV and napping (what can I say the duvet was just too inviting to ignore) I decided I wasn’t being very Parisian so I made my way to the bathroom where I took thorough advantage of the marble bath and a large glass of vin rouge. The little touches didn’t end there. That is what I call service!

Luckily I was staying at The Talbott, a hotel that didn’t mind checking me in at 8am. My initial assessment of the place wasn’t far off - the suite was fantastic. The great use of technology doesn’t stop in the guest rooms it can also be found throughout the event space. Now that is customer service!

Located on Grafton Street with all its shops and restaurants and just opposite St. We were able to pick pretty much anywhere we wanted for dinner and had a lovely stroll to and from the restaurant. As a late riser I usually check to see what time breakfast finishes so it was unusual for me to be one of the first in the restaurant.

It was evening by the time I arrived into Toronto and as it was also Valentine’s Day the city’s bars and restaurants were packed with couples and singles alike. There are loads of options for bars and restaurants near to the hotel – guests really are spoiled for choice. On my way to Toronto I stopped at Niagara Falls.

The surprises began with dinner at the swankiest restaurant from their hometown in Brussels and progressed to skydiving, matching tattoos and a “bachelor’s” weekend in Ireland. Not wanting to burden or rely on others for rides, the teen walked an approximately 10-mile round trip commute to work, in the dark, for more than a year. Elisa Zied.
