So be warned - often unfairly, the first job you take out of college becomes your specialty. After I was laid off I of course had to go look for another job. I was called in for an interview at an agency and it was the assistant that did all the vetting of the candidates. In hindsight, there was fault in my thinking.

There are still jobs to be had, you just have to find them. I was speaking to a manager the other day and he said when he gets a resume, that is one of the first things he checks. If you get an opportunity for an interview you may as well go and try it. Be prepared in the interview with your own questions too.

Any time you interview where this situation occurs you are allowed to ask very politely. I’ve known assistants to turn down jobs once they saw their desk and where they would sit - old furniture, very darkly lit, they’d have to pay for their own parking, very low morale or poor employee engagement - no coffee, no break room, etc.
