Be a ninja Whenever I go into people’s offices, I try to train them to understand that if I need them, I wait in the doorway until they see me or acknowledge me so I can ask them a question. This office bible should list any detail you can think of from both basic information, like or dislikes, favorite catering places, etc.

Now's a great time to set a foundation and train your executive (if they are willing and learn to trust you) so a precedent can be set. If possible, train your boss to cc you whenever something needs to be handled and clue you in on conversations so you have somewhat of an idea of what is going on. You ask a very good question!

Google has an information line ( 1 800 466 4411 ). You can use google to get similar information. Too much information. It was then she introduced me to Google.

The mistakes were along the lines of typos, not explaining a request so it was 100% dummy-proof, and not catching a detail buried on a multi-page group email that had been forwarded to so many people by the time it got to me that I had to hunt and peck for the bits of information like I was looking for Waldo.

I admit I have no information about you, your department or company; I only have what you wrote in your question. It also costs a lot to hire someone else because finding the time to find the right person and training them is expensive in energy, manpower, resources, and money. Paying dues is worth it for a reason.
