I hated the mental stress and burden of putting everyone else first and getting only the usual thank you’s and words of appreciation. I would also volunteer at work and socialize with my co-workers during the holiday gift wrapping parties. I mentored other younger assistants. I hated having to do EVERY LITTLE thing for my boss.

During a board meeting prep week, for instance, email may require more time and attention for last-minute submissions and changes. Some weeks you may create a new procedure every day.

As well, it’s always a good idea to budget more time and resources to a project than you think is necessary to lessen the stress of unexpected setbacks. Set boundaries. Get support.
