You only have so much space on a resume, so you want to use it to show that you’re a team player who can work independently and has good time management skills while highlighting your technical skills. Your cover letter shouldn’t be more than a page, possibly even shorter depending on the specific directions provided by the employer.

In amongst all of my files and paperwork I discovered a handful of my old covering letters for various jobs I had applied for over the years (one was hand written – that is how old I am!). I wondered how many of us still write covering letters when we apply for jobs?
