He is 25 years older, and he was my mentor early in my career. By then I was insistent that I wanted to run the business alone, and I rented a conference room for a meeting away from our office. I worked with my partner since the 1980s at both a big bank and a small business. I suggested a buyout plan that would be completed by then.
