I like to be prepared and I find life just works better for me at home, work and even on the bus, when I am organized and ready for whatever is coming up. I find the same thing at work.

There are some companies that, unfortunately, don’t allow for purchases such as stationary , fax machines , toner , etc. There are penny deals all the time, where auctions start off at just one cent. You can even get new items, if you aren’t into used items or feel that they might not work as well. Whats next?

My weight gain happened as a result of being so busy in my new job that I started eating out because it was easier than having to make my own breakfast, lunch and sometimes dinner at home and I stopped going to the gym because I just couldn't seem to find the time. I couldn’t believe it either. I personally couldn’t do this, but it’s quite interesting that people would actually think of this. I work in a back office environment, where 99% of our client interaction is via the phone, e-mail or outside of the office, so I can wear jeans and a t-shirt.

Manage: Try scheduling e-mail checks every two hours to minimize time spent with the e-mail account open. Managing messages in bulk, but still in a consistent fashion, can help save time. If you don’t have e-mail folders, create some and sort messages as they are received. Check: Are you prioritizing tasks correctly?

If you are not the organizer, you still have a responsibility to provide available dates in a timely manner, set a reminder to make sure there is an agenda and if there isnt, email to ask for one.

The argument could be said that the role of the assistant is to assist and keep your boss organized so we shouldnt complain when we have to do it. I have found the best way to cope is to keep yourself organized. Keep an organized filing system and file list. You will also feel more in control of the situation and less stressed.

I find the best way for me to keep my Inbox organized is to immediately deal with the e-mail when it arrives. I never have more than four or five e-mails in my Inbox for any length of time. At times it is just as quick to answer the e-mail and be done with it, but I like to keep a record of the e-mail so I know I did the work.
