Depending on how acronym happy your office is, it can be like learning a new language. Speaking of initialisms, have you noticed that in many offices, in the e-mail salutation, they refer to people either by their first initial or first and last initial, i.e. Hi P or Hi PR. I could help them and they could help me, but I also found it to be good networking. Like you, I list the new assistant as not only a contact but a definite resource for future references. Its and Its Learned vs. Learnt Lets versus lets Listing job responsibilities May,Should, Must may/might and can/could Me or Myself?

I dont mind being referred to as someones assistant. My current boss always refers to me as his colleague, both to those within our company and to external contacts when referring them to me. I tend to use the term boss when I refer to my employer. My all-time favourite however is colleague. 411 Look Up 411.ca

Networking within your own company is a great way to keep your current job or secure a future one. I can honestly say that even though it was a hard time to go through, I ended up getting a much better job and a better opportunity and can look back on it as a good learning experience. Be the person who finds solutions. Be thankful.

This is where an assistant network can come in handy. I often reach out to my network to get answers to problems that come up at the office or just to lend a sympathetic ear. I had a big learning curve going into it and I didnt know any of the other assistants so I felt all alone with my challenges. 411 Look Up 411.ca
