Finally, I got a job interview through the temp agency for a one-year contract. It would be the longest contract I had been offered so I was anxious to do well in the interview. I didn’t have much choice so I plunged ahead and went to the interview, all the while thinking it was not my first choice, but I needed a job so I had to try.

Employers may get to see a side of you other than what you put on your resume or present at the interview. Being a member is not only a great place for networking, but for mentoring and learning of jobs in your area. When you are temping act as if you are on an interview every day. Don’t be discouraged and stay at home mopping.

Regarding the latter, can he/she even legally ask you to do those things (pick up dry cleaning, get a babysitter for the kids, etc etc?) You can ask in the interview in a nice way. There are others who mean well, but never have enough time to mentor you. This is something you should think about while interviewing for jobs.

Any time you interview where this situation occurs you are allowed to ask very politely. However, realize you may only get a portion of the truth because if someone is terrible, they are not allowed to say they were terrible for legal reasons, etc. Ask polite questions, know yourself, interview them as well.
