At first blush, my pride flared up and my internal Vanessa started to craft a sassy retort to the gentleman about the awesomeness of my resume, yada yada. For most administrative professionals, the majority of our roles contain functions that recur, such as calendar management, expense reporting and travel arrangements.

We hired a temp to do some simple clerical work for us, but realized once she left, that the work was inadequate and there were spelling mistakes along with the mail merge list not being correct, that we supplied to her. Heres an example of what happened with me.

The reality of being an EA is that while the phones, calendar, and travel are essentially the same in every office your boss and your team are always unique people with their own work styles and needs. I mention how I worked for all my CEOs because I was recruited away as a temp. Luckily, I did!

Recently, a temp worker at my job gave me another Google tip. Finally, I asked her how she knew the answers and what was she doing to get the information? It was then she introduced me to Google. I have loved it ever since and that is when my list of handy Favourites was born. Google has an information line ( 1 800 466 4411 ).

years and recently made an internal move, becoming the EA to a C-Level executive. You answer the phone, book travel, offer beverages to guests, book meetings, prepare the conference room, order food, etc. If you are out sick, a temp will have to sub for you. I have only been an EA for 1.5 Do they know the vm passwords?
