I would also learn earlier on how to train yourself to switch off. After her talk I knew that I had to do it for Guernsey as there weren’t any real PA training courses or anything like what we were thinking of doing. With the assistant role now encompassing so many varied tasks we should expect to see a rise in training for assistants in 2013. If you have been asked to take on additional work then expect to be trained in the new aspects of your job. There are so many different forms of communication and that is only going to increase in 2013.

The survey asked if assistants feel that having or not having a university degree has made a difference to their career path. Obtaining funds from work to complete training in the current environment is difficult.
