A certification can certainly help you get promoted to an executive assistant position or be considered for an executive assistant position. It says a lot when your boss wants to grow you within the company and promote you. I started this blog while temping/job hunting and I was allowed to write or do personal side projects as long as it was not interfering with my work. Outside of work, I started to take classes at night (and even on the weekends).

And I started in the company as a temp worker in 2004. And this class is mixed. It’s all mixed together so the class could be 20 folks that are coming to the call center and 30 folks that are going to various departments around the company. That would be a large class but just as an example. There’s talk of history.

Sign up with the major job hunting sites with your resume and profile, join social network sites geared towards work, and meet with every temp agency in town just to be safe. Believe it or not, some assistant jobs actually prefer you have an Ivy League degree even if they ask for a career assistant or to promote them up the chain.

And as I was working, job hunting and/or temping, I had to find other sources of happiness. I would rather go to a pilates studio that has classes late at night that fits my work hours vs going to a gym that only costs $30 a month. Take an online class and study at work. It’s a grueling process to keep doing for a year or more.
