Try to set up the communication of the office so your boss checks their own emails and responds, but you are in charge of all the mtg coordination, phones, and anything that happens in the office. If you are out sick, a temp will have to sub for you. The goal is to have at your fingertips information you will need at a moment's notice.

The mistakes were along the lines of typos, not explaining a request so it was 100% dummy-proof, and not catching a detail buried on a multi-page group email that had been forwarded to so many people by the time it got to me that I had to hunt and peck for the bits of information like I was looking for Waldo.

Tell us your story on how you went from temping in LA to being the EA of high-profile CEOs. I found every single one of my jobs through a temping agency or by referral. I learned through informational interviews that I should apply to temp agencies. So I left that temp gig and went to work for the CEO.

Stay away from email! Stay away from email! cutting way back on what you spend, living on a tight budget, etc. Temp three days per week so that you have some steady income, and work in your VA practice two full days per week In this way, you have income, and you have specific, defined time to work on building your practice.
