I was new to the school, didn’t know anyone, and I organized a show with all the rappers and comedians and singers from the school. Once you get to a point where you’re opening for major acts—like Donald Glover [Childish Gambino] or Mac Miller [who passed away in 2018] or Eminem—I got paid $1,500 a night. And I closed out the show.

My organization has grown rapidly over the past 8 years so there’s always a new challenge and many opportunities to push myself out of my comfort zone.
