Subsequently, he temped as an illustrator for a big ad agency, where he learned early versions of Flash and code-based animation. They’d misheard his birth name as José. No problem.

Later I was recruited by Mr. W – he made it clear that my first priority was to create a highly functioning admin team and to assist him with his management team. The staffing agent asked if I was open to temp to perm, even though the position was for a full time EA, he feels the CEO may need time to see if it is a good fit. I have no idea how long "temp" is considered before they would offer the permanent position. It feels like a bait and switch and there are no guarantees.

However, if the minutes are restricted to those who only attended the meeting, then those team members will only be interested in the actions that arose out of the meeting, plus the very top-level highlights. If they’re being read more widely, it’s a given that you will need to capture everything that is mentioned.

I state my job is to assimilate to what already exists at the company and to be team player and to do what is best for the company because without the company, I wouldn’t be here. I mention how I worked for all my CEOs because I was recruited away as a temp. My goal as temp was to be asked back as a temp repeatedly - that’s it.

And I started in the company as a temp worker in 2004. And then we just make sure that the leadership team makes an effort to engage and interact with them.

Tell us your story on how you went from temping in LA to being the EA of high-profile CEOs. I found every single one of my jobs through a temping agency or by referral. I learned through informational interviews that I should apply to temp agencies. I opened the phone book and signed up with every single one in town.
