How do I get a recommendation letter from my boss for a new job hunt without raising suspicion or improve my situation without my boss’ help? It’s such a shame that there aren’t more managers who are good mentors that help each individual grow and learn more in their roles. HR will usually call 2-3 people for a quick phone chat.

Becoming too comfortable in your career and with your skills can set you up for problems if you suddenly find yourself out of work. Find a mentor. Pick up the phone. I found every single one of my jobs through a temping agency or by referral. But in reality – the most useful skill that opened a lot of doors for me were my soft skills.
