In interviews I’ve said that I’ve worked for introverts and extroverts and my job is to conform to the needs of my boss. This means when you show up for the interview you are courteous to everyone. Your interview starts even before you shake hands with anyone or answer an interview question.

At first blush, my pride flared up and my internal Vanessa started to craft a sassy retort to the gentleman about the awesomeness of my resume, yada yada. I have also participated in several fruitful phone screens, and I have an onsite interview scheduled in the coming days.

2) Ask to meet for fun and to conduct informational interviews When you send out an email as mentioned above, those who are happy to hear from you and want to help you will respond. You can hang out with your friend and informally conduct an informational interview. Those who are too busy will probably just read it and delete.

Recently, a temp worker at my job gave me another Google tip. Admin in the Spotlight: Interview with Lynn Holgat. Finally, I asked her how she knew the answers and what was she doing to get the information? It was then she introduced me to Google. I have loved it ever since and that is when my list of handy Favourites was born.

I’ve heard of people even interning. You’re most likely going to get a lot of interviews for the business side of the entertainment industry as you try to switch fields - CFO’s EA at a major entertainment company, production/film companies that are just starting out and need funding, or internet start ups.

I have heard of EAs working for successful international corporations and earning a very large salary. When you interview for new jobs, do your yearly job performance reviews, network, or whenever appropriate, make it clear you have bigger goals. There have been times in my career when I would join any activities the interns went to.
