How do I get a recommendation letter from my boss for a new job hunt without raising suspicion or improve my situation without my boss’ help? It’s such a shame that there aren’t more managers who are good mentors that help each individual grow and learn more in their roles. Progressive work experience is always a smart goal.

Hochwarter over the phone. And I do understand that money does not buy happiness, etc etc, but we do heroes, mentors and models of good behavior. Those of us who have been in the workforce for a longer period of time owe it to ourselves to help them, mentor them and encourage them. Do you have a goal in mind for your career?

Find a mentor. Ask someone you respect and feel you really connect with for feedback on what you’re doing with your career or in your job. Or, you can ask a professional organization about helping you find a mentor who can help guide you through some career issues. Pick up the phone. Take the high road. I love #10.

I opened the phone book and signed up with every single one in town. 6) Be strategic about your career plan and job hunt. Know your goal and work backwards and figure out a vague flexible timeline of goals and promotions needed. Just being in their presence means being informally mentored by osmosis.
