The staffing agent asked if I was open to temp to perm, even though the position was for a full time EA, he feels the CEO may need time to see if it is a good fit. I have no idea how long "temp" is considered before they would offer the permanent position. It feels like a bait and switch and there are no guarantees.

The shortest route is to look for temp work thru agencies or TaskRabbit, Craiglist, or volunteer. Your best bet is to get a job with an executive that is also climbing the ladder so you follow them as they get promoted. Many pay their dues by working 24/7 the first couple of years before they get more experience or promoted.

Private colleges may seem expensive but they offer many scholarships to help offset this cost. It also promotes yourself for your next position. (BM). Some colleges offer scholarships.

I've heard of EAs who are promoted to Operations or Facilities roles later on in their careers but at this point, I am playing both roles. EA work is typically admin work - phones, travels, calendars, expense reports, mtgs/luncheons, etc. Believe or not, a job well done actually leads to more work and often harder or better work.
