That definitely can be a challenge. A wonderful person, but totally disorganized and always waiting for the last minute for everything. Granted, this took time, but eventually, she learned to trust me and realized that once she sends a request to me, she considers it done as soon as she hits the send button in her Outlook.

I could help them and they could help me, but I also found it to be good networking. Like you, I list the new assistant as not only a contact but a definite resource for future references. This is where an assistant network can come in handy. I often reach out to my network to get answers to problems that come up at the office or just to lend a sympathetic ear. I had a big learning curve going into it and I didnt know any of the other assistants so I felt all alone with my challenges. 5, 2010 at 12 p.m.

I have been on some interactive sites where assistants ask questions and get answers and I learn from them as I have some of the same questions. Lunch n learns are also a good way to learn from each other. Administrative newsletters or bulletin boards where you can post tips or suggestions is a good way to learn.

If I am told that I should have it in the next few weeks, or can expect to receive it in a couple of months, that doesn’t really help me with my follow up as it is not a definite date.
