Temp, volunteer, apply for PT work and list that as your present role. So, it's best to search for temporary, short-term admin work via temping, volunteering, applying for part time work so you have something to put on your resume. I've been blogging for about 4 years now so that's a lot of material!

You care less, you’re easily annoyed, you start to do a cost-benefit analysis, you feel resentful, and you feel short changed. State you’d love to be an EA and learn so much you can be promoted to coordinator, director, manager. When you do things for money, it shows. Take personality tests, read books, talk to people.

The staffing agent asked if I was open to temp to perm, even though the position was for a full time EA, he feels the CEO may need time to see if it is a good fit. I have no idea how long "temp" is considered before they would offer the permanent position. What did they learn? How long do you think is fair?

I've heard of EAs who are promoted to Operations or Facilities roles later on in their careers but at this point, I am playing both roles. If you don’t have those basics down, it’s not really something you can learn well enough to truly change the trajectory of your career in a reasonable amount of time. It’s because they trust you.

If I had more work to do and would be learning along the way, I would stay. And as I was working, job hunting and/or temping, I had to find other sources of happiness. You mention you would stay if you had more work to do or you were learning more. For example, I ABSOLUTELY love learning, helping people, and relaxing.
