After only 2 weeks, I found a great company through a staffing agency and the position was full time working for a wonderful CEO. The staffing agent asked if I was open to temp to perm, even though the position was for a full time EA, he feels the CEO may need time to see if it is a good fit. How long do you think is fair?

This would also help with their induction process and ideally a ‘buddy cover’ or mentor could be assigned. Have a launch event to promote the PA network. The launch will let people decide if it is for them.

A certification can certainly help you get promoted to an executive assistant position or be considered for an executive assistant position. You have to show your executive and business owner how investing in your development will benefit them or the company. There are a lot of good training programs out there and reputable companies.

State you’d love to be an EA and learn so much you can be promoted to coordinator, director, manager. The most important thing is to take action and do something different so you can get promoted, get better tasks, that raise, or transition to a different role, dept, company, or industry. Work on your weaknesses.

Tell us your story on how you went from temping in LA to being the EA of high-profile CEOs. I found every single one of my jobs through a temping agency or by referral. I learned through informational interviews that I should apply to temp agencies. So I left that temp gig and went to work for the CEO.

He's expressed his appreciation for my hard work and his desire for me to move up in the company once I've decided where I want to be, which I am still figuring out. I love being an EA.

Q: You mentioned being headhunted consistently by Fortune 500 companies. A: I do agree doing all those basic employment tests are a drag, but companies still feel it's safe to do it and a good way to weed out candidates. They also take into consideration which C-Level executive you assisted and at which company.
