Dont play with your phone. While you may know enough to mute your phone during an interview, you also cant even look at it. Dont eat something while waiting for your interview -- it can give you bad breath and you risk getting something stuck between your teeth or crumbs on your clothes. Put it away so youre not even tempted.

They Google your website for a biography. They see what’s written on your business card. Sometimes they’ll pick up clues via auditory channels : They speak to you on the phone. They check out the clothes and shoes you’re wearing. They check your email footer for info. They search for your LinkedIn profile.

Luckily, in my office, we dress in casual clothes all of the time and we do have a corporate policy of being able to dress up in a costume for this event. This has been a tradition in our office for quite some time now, where people would decorate the office, dress up in funky costumes and bring baked treats for everyone.

I have set up a folder for Google Alerts to keep me updated on what is new in my profession. It feels like I just went through my closet and threw a whole bunch of clothes out that I never wear. They are now at my convenience, rather than being in my face every time I look in my Inbox. With my new rule they go directly to that folder.

Build a website with WordPress, start to hand out business cards, purchase a cheap mailing list, knock on doors, and one day you could be a much-sought-after consultant! We all know cleaning businesses exist. You will have to make a few soliciting phone calls, knock on some doors, ask around, etc. Nothing fancy here.
