The gentleman on the call introduced himself as a consultant with a well-known local staffing agency who had reviewed the resume I had uploaded to the organization's website. You did the things, but how did they help the organization? Event planning could also figure into that category. Very necessary advice and yet an 'A ha!'

When we reference organizations that have provided us funding in the last year we will note it. The CNN article focuses on the growing use of temps. Cheaper, too, because with flatter organizations, less management is involved. These are folks who turn to self-employment because they can't find a job.

I'm an EA to the President and CEO of a North American marketing agency that is growing rapidly. When we were a smaller agency, I was the EA and Office Manager for a smaller facility. At this point in your career, I am pretty certain that you are smart, organized, reliable, and are doing pretty well with performance.

The shortest route is to look for temp work thru agencies or TaskRabbit, Craiglist, or volunteer. Will you be humble enough to take direction and do minor tasks like get coffee, scheduling, and travel? Your best bet is to get some experience in admin and being an EA thru temping or other contract work.

Sure, some of them might have the same jobs, but you will soon find that sometimes a company will only work with one specific agency. Job hunting is a numbers and timing game.

Tell us your story on how you went from temping in LA to being the EA of high-profile CEOs. I found every single one of my jobs through a temping agency or by referral. I learned through informational interviews that I should apply to temp agencies. So I left that temp gig and went to work for the CEO.
