Be proactive if there is someone in a group or a particular recruitment agency that would be useful to network with then do connect with them. An excellent recruitment agency or a brilliant colleague.

You’d think that if you had a credit card, you’d be safe, but I once had to get a cashier’s check for almost $400 for a work event. Have money for job hunting and working. Whenever you interview for a job, there’s at least 2-3 interviews if not more. Have cash in your bank account.

Working with recruitment agencies. Dealing with agencies – hum, this is tricky. In my experience there are some terrible agencies out there that will treat you really badly and will put you forward for jobs that are totally unsuitable for you. The agencies will only call you if your CV has passed their keyword algorithm.

One of the unexpected surprises was that once my contract ended all the recruiters that I worked with said I did well and offered to help me with my job hunt too! I loved being a cheerleader for the company and helping people get hired. They are all extremely gracious and kind! So I'm covered at the central hub.

Even though I am an EA with over 15 years of experience at the C-level, it seems that all the recruiting agencies I have approached still require an applicant to come in for an appointment to take their basic employment testing, and then only seem to be able to offer lower-level administrative jobs.

I found every single one of my jobs through a temping agency or by referral. I learned through informational interviews that I should apply to temp agencies. My job is anything from deliver memos to different people on other floors to stuffing THOUSANDS of invitations to be mailed out for movie premieres.
