Anyway, my point is that I know quite a bit about getting a new job and I’m going to share some of my knowledge with you in this post. I’ve written posts on both covering letters and resumes so all I would add here is that you should tailor your CV and covering letter for each of the jobs you are applying for.

You’d think that if you had a credit card, you’d be safe, but I once had to get a cashier’s check for almost $400 for a work event. Have money for job hunting and working. Whenever you interview for a job, there’s at least 2-3 interviews if not more. You’ll need to make copies of your resume or have a nice folder.

One of the unexpected surprises was that once my contract ended all the recruiters that I worked with said I did well and offered to help me with my job hunt too! I've also discovered that my resume will usually get me in the door of a company if I send it cold or someone who doesn't know me well passes on my resume anyway.

I found every single one of my jobs through a temping agency or by referral. I learned through informational interviews that I should apply to temp agencies. My job is anything from deliver memos to different people on other floors to stuffing THOUSANDS of invitations to be mailed out for movie premieres.

Even though I am an EA with over 15 years of experience at the C-level, it seems that all the recruiting agencies I have approached still require an applicant to come in for an appointment to take their basic employment testing, and then only seem to be able to offer lower-level administrative jobs.
