When 37-year-old neuroscientist Jill Bolte-Taylor had a massive stroke in 1996, she lost her ability to form words and move her body but also experienced what she would later describe in her TED Talk as “euphoria”. This doubled to age 80 by 2010. As recently as 1880, life expectancy at birth in wealthy countries was just 40 years old.
