However, due the slump, don’t give up on your bottom 80% of your customers. Your best clients for 2010 might not have spent anything in 2009. Figure out what you can do to help them get there.

By charging by the hour you are creating so many barriers to doing business that your chances of securing the order is very small, if you are competing with someone who offers fixed pricing you have virtually no chance of getting the order. And they do work on fixed price basis in most instances. I would be keen to know.

Defend your prices in terms of value for money to your customers and then get them to do it for you to potential new customers. Promote your value for money. Cheapest isn’t the best.
