I know, WP experts will advise me that it wasn’t magic but rather misbehavior of a dormant plugin or something else I did or misjudged. The only remaining big mess was the admin panel which wasn’t seeing its intended CSS and image files. A colleague recommended reinstallation of the wp-admin files. Loose Ends.

Specifically, my update didn’t find or recognize these three files: wp-includes/http.php wp-includes/pluggable.php wp-includes/Text/Diff/Renderer/inline.php All it took was a look through the 2.7 package to find these, after which I reuploaded each individual file. They don`t want to know about my summer job as a babysitter? I was used to listing all my duties on my resume: maintaining a filing system, answering the telephone, typing correspondence, etc. I was working for a government organization and there were news reports that the public sector were in for some big layoffs due to downsizing.
