Minute taking definitely isnt easy, but it doesnt have to be stressful. Below are a few tips so the task is not as daunting: Filling in the blanks I take minutes on a laptop so it is easy to make a template ahead of time which is based on the agenda. Lets enjoy our day together.© vs. i.e.

Much easier than searching in Outlook and less stressful. I dont want to miss a step so always go through the checklist on the travel sheet. The good thing about keeping them all in a central spot is I always know where the paperwork is and can easily grab it when I need it.

This does increase the preparation time, but on the day of the meeting it goes very smoothly with no stress. Then it is a simple matter of filling in the blanks on the day of the meeting. To prepare a minute template simply use your agenda and put it in minute format. I use the meeting agenda as an index with each item as a tab number.

An interview can be as stressful on those conducting it as on the person being interviewed if the conversation does not flow. A firm but short handshake is all it takes. If I forgot to bring my laptop with me to a meeting out of town, that would be an almost disaster for me because I prepare my minutes ahead of time on my computer and basically all I have to do at the meeting is fill in the blanks. One of the things they stressed was to hire well. My former boss gave me an excellent reference on paper and by phone. A good reference can go a long way towards getting your next job. I read an interesting article on what management can do to prevent lay offs. They advised not to be so quick to hire someone just to fill the position.

Perhaps we put a lot of the stress on ourselves because we feel that every e-mail has to be replied to immediately. When I have spoken to people who are extremely frustrated about the back and forth of e-mail, I have to wonder why they felt they needed to answer it so urgently in the first place. vs. i.e.
