I have been involved in conducting a few interviews for admin jobs and here are two of the main things I have noticed about those who are unsuccessful: resumes are out of date and not relevant to the job applied for and the person was not prepared for the interview. 1) Do try the temp agencies. Here is what I recommend.

I was out of work, temping here and there for a year. A Job is Waiting to Happen to You Long gone are the days of scouring the newspaper want ads and pounding the pavement going from office to office submitting your resume. Employers may get to see a side of you other than what you put on your resume or present at the interview.

Temp, volunteer, apply for PT work and list that as your present role. So, it's best to search for temporary, short-term admin work via temping, volunteering, applying for part time work so you have something to put on your resume.
