Before leaving, I was able to spend a few days going over the binder with my temp. She was very appreciative to have such a detailed point of reference to help her quickly get up to speed. I was asked to share my binder with the legal secretaries in my division in our Chicago and Washington, D.C.

I temped here and there for a year. Finally, I got a job interview through the temp agency for a one-year contract. The man I interviewed with was very nice, but was concerned about my lack of legal experience. I ended up moving to an apartment downtown and walking to work, that's how close I lived to the office.

They are not minor children that you birthed into the world and have a legal responsibility to and for. Taking on more than is yours to take on is part of an employment model that teaches people to do more than they signed up for in order to hopefully keep their jobs. Please don''t overcare about them.

I was out of work, temping here and there for a year. Try searching your name on the Internet and see what comes up. Don’t underestimate the value of temping. Working for a temp agency can either land you a full-time job or help to keep you employed while you are looking. That may not be what you want an employer to know?

If you’re afraid you’ll only be picking up dry cleaning all day, you can state what you are looking for by saying, “My background has been as an executive assistant, where 90% of my workload related to the office and 10% was personal business handling x, y, z.” This means when you show up for the interview you are courteous to everyone.
