Keep in mind that they are the ones that are paying your salary. This happens so often within large corporations, since most of them care only about the bottom line - money! Money, of course, is important, but what about the customer? Providing excellent customer service is crucial.

I think that during the process of your performance appraisal it would be a good time to bring it up, but I never have. I have asked for a raise however, but it was after I considered a move somewhere else and wasnt sure I wanted to go, so gave my employer a chance to match the new salary and they did.
