Three of my favourites: 6 – Learn to say “No”. Phone ringing? When I’m doing important work, I also switch off my phone. I think that (1) make a daily plan and (6) learn to say “No&# are two that stand out. There is nothing particularly new in the list, but it does a good job of covering the fundamentals.

It’s important to learn how and when to say no. Heather, came close to burnout, working long hours and weekends, until she learned how to make a priority of what she had to, should and even wanted to do. Don’t answer the phone or e-mail. I’m not saying that you should be selfish and never help anybody out.

Get a single notebook and use it to record notes, phone numbers, web addresses, ideas, to-dos, etc. Create a list or binder of regularly referenced material, such as phone numbers, and keep it accessible in a desk drawer.
