I want all my filing to be up to date and my desk to be neat and tidy. I want to tie up any loose ends. If you have an opportunity, clean up your old files and put them in storage if you no longer need them. Meetings - Are you in the middle of planning a meeting? I keep a meeting scheduling form at my desk.

And always checking up on you. A manager has to have confidence that you know how to do your job. I just did not have confidence that this person was going to be able to assist me. Ask yourself what things really matter to you and ask questions to bring those things up in the interview. Did you do this? Did you do that?

So I started to say Yes and it was a real confidence booster. The next time a new challenge or opportunity comes up at work, pay attention to what you tell yourself -- are you being positive or negative? Once you start doubting yourself, it is hard to bring yourself back up. They could see something in me, that I couldnt.

I read something that made me pause, but because I was in a big hurry and felt confident that the other person was covering that base, I let it go. I started this blog to share the knowledge I had picked up over the years either from other administrative assistants, my bosses or from trial and error. It also eases your bosss mind when they see you write it down, it gives them confidence it will be taken care of. I also use Tasks in Outlook to follow up on electronic items.

From writing that article I had confidence to take a job that required me taking minutes and it has turned out fine.
