Putting confidence into your copy almost to the point of arrogance is pretty powerful stuff, and it works out great for a lot of people. However, all too often this confidence turns to cockiness. If you’re still not sure, I’ll be honest – I’m probably not going to be able to help you yet, because this takes confidence on both sides.

While training for competition, I learned many valuable lessons (beyond the kind that made sure you didn’t canter off to your death). It takes skills to jump small – and to jump well. That’s a good way to build confident success so that you’re always ready for what’s coming at you – before you get there.

Competition makes you confident. Being able to say that you’re better for whatever reason gives you confidence in your business and in your product. And it’s going to translate into a confidence that affects your sales, your demeanor, and ultimately the success of your business. Excitement instead of indifference?

But what I tell people are four scenes from the last six months that sum up what I’ve learned better than I can spell it out: Exhibit A: The High Style The man I was listening to spoke with a strong British accent. However, he isn’t stodgy, and his social skills are better than mine. It was awesome, but his story was even better.

Especially if you’ve learned something along the way. But if your goal was to use the month to create something upon which you can build, both in terms of learning curve and raw material, then perhaps it’s better to stop right where you are. Love the six core skills idea. Learn something from the process. I had a blast!

What they don’t tell you is that in order to do any of these things you should do, you need to master something else first – something more intangible, something more than a skill.
