My suitcase was packed, my traveling clothes all laid out. Of course we were all looking forward to this vacation. My mom tried to help by encouraging me to like stuff that other girls my age liked: clothes, boy bands, teen magazines. I bucked her attempts to put me in stylish clothes and instead opted for baggy T-shirts.

I often think I need new clothes, but when I clean out or organize my closet, I realize I have lots of options and everything I need at my fingertips. Put those things on your not-to-do list and pay people to help you with the stuff that doesn’t produce the sales and lifestyle success you desire. Have gratitude.

Yes, external stuff can help, from clothes to voice to smiles and hand gestures. Jordan (along with her devotion to Shakespeare and her lovely lopsided smile) is how present she was. There’s no one reason, of course: She has plenty of attractive traits, including brains, humor and astounding cheekbones. A gift of presence.

Yesterday I had a very special experience in as much that I was kindly asked – thanks to Phyllis Mercer – to be a guest judge at the Year 2 BTEC National Business Course for their business plans. During the course of the day I listened to 16 business plans, I was supposed to be a bank manager (!)
