When I leave jiu-jitsu class and reenter the “real world,” I’m quickly reminded of just how valuable this practice of connecting to myself is. There are a few reasons for this, but one of the key reasons is that the places that force the necessary inner reflection and challenge that promote growth are becoming harder and harder to find.

The class was among the university’s most popular courses. I don’t want to say it’s all over, but your self-esteem gets tanked. In a similar vein, too many companies still look upon an annual review as a justification for why a person doesn’t earn a promotion or raise, instead of the productive opportunity it can be.

This builds your self-esteem, and the person you contact will remember that you made the effort to talk to them. If you take the risk, and say those things others are holding back from, you will build self-esteem, and will also notice that everyone is glad that you said them.
